Dr. Heribert Schröder

Heribert Schröder grew up in the Rhineland and, after completing instrumental studies in violin and piano and studying singing with Eberhard Jansen, he attended the University of Bonn (Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms Universität), where he studied musicology, folklore and Catholic theology.

After graduating he became Assistant Lecturer at the Musicology Seminar at the University of Bonn; in 1987 he switched permanently to the music management sector, initially as personal adviser to the Generalmusikdirector with the Orchestra of the Beethovenhalle in Bonn and the International Beethoven Festivals. In 1992 he switched to the Bonn Opera House in the same capacity, and also took the position of dramatic producer; he later also took charge of the Opera House’s public relations work. In 1996 he joined the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra as executive director, and in 1999 the Bochum Symphonic as orchestra director. Since 1999 he has been Assistant Lecturer for Orchestra and Opera House Management at Hamburg’s Musikhochschule.

Heribert Schröder joined the Bruckner Orchester in August 2001 as Artistic Director/Substitute Principal Conductor, and in this capacity he is responsible for the administrative agenda of Principal Conductor Dennis Russell Davies, with whom he has now been co-operating on his artistic planning since 1987without interruption.

Heribert Schröder also assumed other duties with the Deutscher Musikrat [German Music Council] and the Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland. From 1980 to 1992 for instance he sat on the boards of the Jugend musiziert competitions at regional and Land levels and also on the main federal committee, where he regularly acted as chairman of a jury. In 1997 the Steering Committee of the Deutscher Musikrat appointed him to the Federal Technical Committee for Music Professions, on which he is now serving his third period in office.

From 1985 to 2002 he was responsible for the department for promoting young opera talents on the Federal Board of the Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland and, in his capacity as chairman of the Board of Governors of the International Summer Courses at Schloss Weikersheim, worked as executive producer on six opera productions, conducted by among others Lothar Zagrosek, Stefan Sanderling, Dennis Russell Davies and Yakov Kreizberg.

Heribert Schröder is a Rheinländer with body and soul, enjoys cooking in his spare time, and loves the mountains. He has found a new home from home in the small town of Neuhaus an der Donau, in the Mühlviertel region of Upper Austria.
